WHY WISLO
There’s often a gap between strategy and delivery.
INDEPENDENT THINKING
We start with the objective, not a predetermined solution.
PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE
Thinking shaped by the realities of building and delivering.
MAKING THINGS HAPPEN
A focus on creating a credible route from ambition to action.
That's the space Wislo was created to work in.
Organisations are rarely short of ideas, strategies or ambition.
The difficulty often comes afterwards — translating that ambition into something that can be funded, supported, designed and ultimately delivered.
That space doesn't always belong neatly to one traditional discipline.
It can require strategic thinking, commercial understanding, experience of physical environments, technology, investment and the ability to bring different organisations around the same opportunity.
ABOUT WISLO
Built around the idea that good strategy should lead somewhere.
Wislo is a strategic advisory business working across education, skills and innovation.
We help organisations make sense of ambitious ideas — connecting strategy with spaces, investment, partnerships and practical delivery.
Our role is not to arrive with a predetermined answer. It is to understand what an organisation is trying to achieve, bring the right perspectives around the challenge and help create a credible route forward.
HOW WE WORK
Built around the challenge, not a fixed team.
Different challenges require different expertise. Wislo is designed to bring together the right combination of strategic, commercial and specialist experience around each engagement.
We lead and coordinate the work, drawing on trusted consultants, specialists and delivery partners where their expertise adds value.
01 — CORE ADVISORY
A consistent strategic lead.
Wislo provides the central thinking, direction and continuity throughout an engagement.
02 — SPECIALIST EXPERTISE
The right expertise when it's needed.
Where a challenge requires deeper specialist knowledge, we bring in appropriate expertise rather than pretending to know everything ourselves.
03 — DELIVERY PARTNERS
Independent advice, connected to delivery.
Where implementation requires specialist organisations, we can help identify and work alongside the right partners while keeping the client's objectives at the centre.
The team should fit the challenge.
The challenge shouldn't have to fit the consultancy.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
A few principles shape how we work.
01 — START WITH THE OUTCOME
Technology, spaces and solutions come later. First understand what needs to change and why.
02 — STAY INDEPENDENT
Recommendations should be driven by the client's objectives, not by a product, platform or supplier relationship.
03 — BRING IN THE RIGHT PEOPLE
The best answer rarely sits with one organisation or discipline. Good work means knowing when other expertise is needed.
04 — MAKE IT PRACTICAL
Strategy has little value if there isn't a credible route to implementation, investment and long-term sustainability.
05 — WORK WITH DISCRETION
Trust matters. We treat client work as confidential by default and don't assume an engagement is ours to publicise.
Think independently. Work collaboratively. Make it achievable.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND WISLO
Experience matters. So do the people you work with.
Wislo brings together strategic, commercial and specialist experience around each engagement.
Our approach is deliberately personal. Clients work with experienced people who stay close to the challenge, understand the context and remain involved as the work develops.

JOHN S WILSON
Founder & Strategic Adviser
John founded Wislo following more than two decades building technology businesses and working with education organisations, industry and technology partners.
His experience spans strategy, commercialisation, learning and innovation environments, digital transformation and strategic partnerships — often working at the point where an ambitious idea needs to become something practical.
Having founded, grown and led businesses himself, John brings both an entrepreneurial and commercial perspective to advisory work, alongside extensive experience of turning emerging technologies and new ways of working into real-world programmes.
“I’ve always been most interested in the space between having a good idea and actually making it happen. That’s ultimately why Wislo exists.”
John S Wilson, Founder
A WIDER NETWORK
Wislo works with consultants, specialists and delivery partners across education, technology, commercial strategy, research, design and programme delivery — bringing additional expertise into an engagement where it adds value.
The right people around the right challenge.
WHERE WE WORK
Education is our starting point. The opportunity is wider.
Wislo's experience is rooted in education, skills and technology, but many of the challenges we work on sit across traditional boundaries.
We are interested in opportunities where organisations are exploring new ways to learn, work, collaborate and create value — particularly where strategy, physical environments, technology, investment and partnerships need to come together.
EDUCATION & SKILLS
Colleges, universities, training providers and organisations developing the skills people and industries need.
INDUSTRY & EMPLOYERS
Organisations looking to connect skills, technology, people and places around future workforce and innovation priorities.
PARTNERSHIPS & PLACE
Cross-sector initiatives bringing together education, employers, technology organisations, public bodies and communities around shared opportunities.
We're less interested in which sector an idea belongs to than in what it could make possible.
START A CONVERSATION
What are you trying to make happen?
You might have an early idea, a strategic priority, a funding opportunity or a programme that simply isn’t moving forward.
Sometimes the most useful starting point is a conversation about what you’re trying to achieve, what’s getting in the way and what could happen next.
No predetermined solution. No sales pitch. Just a useful first conversation.
